EVENTS & TOURS
We used to post all the programs and events hosted by history organizations in and around Erie County. Well, that got to be quite a job, chasing down program managers to get the info, searching Facebook pages for event listings, etc. So, much to the relief of our website manager, we decided to just list the events hosted by or co-sponsored by the Erie County Historical Society. Not to worry though, we still share all the news from our various organizations on our Facebook page (and there are a lot of events).

2026 – January 19 – Dr. Rev. John McCants recreated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
April 11 at the Maritime Museum at 9 am – Jim Cameron presents the historic J.W. Westcott, the only floating post office in the United States. Free admission for Erie Co. Historical Society members (otherwise $10). There will be refreshments and free admission to the museum for the day.
The Great Lakes is home to the only boat in the United States with its own Zip Code-48222! How did this come about? What is it like to work for a company that delivers men, mail and materials to ships passing by on the Detroit River? Come and hear the voices of those who work for the J.W. Westcott Co. talk about dangers, thrills, and the joy of working on the river. Events for March 2026 – Maritime Museum of Sandusky

2025 – OUR ANNUAL MEETING with guest speakers Jim Miller and Bob Speers sharing the history of wineries in Erie County. April 12 – We marked the 80th anniversary of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s death, with historian Jim Miller who explored Roosevelt’s final months, the nation’s reaction to his passing, and the transition of leadership at a pivotal moment in World War II.
